A Study on the Factors Health Inequality of Single-Parent Children: Focusing on the Health Status and Obesity

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of socioeconomic background, health behaviors, mental health, and internet time on subjective health status and obesity of the single-parent children. Data were obtained from the 14th (2018) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey. Data were examined with Complex sample Analysis(Rao-Scott ¥ö2, t-test, Logistic Regression) using SPSS 21. The main subjects of analysis were 59,256(51,867 of two-parents children, 7,389 of single-parents children). The results are as followings. First, Single-parent children have higher rates of obesity, unhealthy, smoking, drinking, soda, fastfood, no breakfast, depression, and suicidal ideation, and higher average stress and Internet time than two-parents children. Second, Factors that had a common influence on obesity among single-parent children and two-parents were fastfood, suicidal ideation, and internet use time. Factors that only affected the obesity of two-parents children were parent¡¯s education, alcohol, soda, depression, and stress. Third, Factors that had a common influence on subjective health status among single-parent children and two-parents were economic status, suicidal ideation, stress, internet use time. This study suggested methods to improve non-obesity and health status in order to prevent health inequality of single-parent children.
